At the top of the Highlanders' organizational and developmental youth pyramid are our U17-U18 which are called the Prospects. These players are full-time with the Highlanders and play senior level competition year round, thus preparing them as 'prospective' PDL and W-League players.
As we continue to evolve with our programming, we wanted to bring our younger youth programs in line with the full-time Prospects. Consequently we have changed the name of our programs at U13-U16 from 'Academy' to Club Prospects since they are part-time programs (once or twice per week), designed for Club registered players from BCSPL, VIPL, Gold, and Silver. The key to the program is that these players are 'like-minded' which indicates that they are looking for additional high performance training.
Club Prospects is not closed to anyone as we have found that many top Prospects have come from not only the BCSPL and VIPL level environments but from every level top to bottom. Players have many reasons to play at the level they currently reside, however within the Club Prospects their goal is to received high level instruction and be in an environment which challenges them in every session. Unfortunately there may be cases where a player developmentally may not be at the level to train with their age group. At this point we will discuss this with the family and a decision will be made to either move to an appropriate age group or we can recommend an alternate training environment which can provide the appropriate training.
The Club Prospects in 2012 and 2013 will occur on Sunday afternoon and evenings at Braefoot Park. Club Prospects will be run in one phase of 24 weeks.
