Match Result- VHFC v Washington

Posted on: Friday, June 18, 2010

Jordie Hughes scored twice, his 6th and 7th of the season to lead the Highlanders back from a 0-1 deficit and take the first leg of their Washington road trip Friday night with a convincing 4-1 win in Seattle over the Crossfire. Hughes scored at 68 minutes to erase the Crossfire early lead, before Craig Gorman's with his third, scored the eventual winner soon after. Winger Kareem Henry scored his second of the year before Hughes iced the game with his second at 80 minutes. Brandon Watson picked up the win in net as veteran Trevor Stiles is still week-to-week with concussion symptons. With the win, the Highlanders moved into first place overall in the PDL. The Victoria Highlanders will travel south on Friday to take on the struggling but offensively capable Washington Crossfire. The Highlanders are coming off a big 2-1 win over Spokane last weekend and will look to build momentum as they will need maximum points in the second half of the season to qualify for playoffs in the very tight, and very tough Northwest Division. Victoria has not had too much difficulty on offense, they are among the division leaders in goals for but have allowed 11 goals against, not bad numbers but it is definitely something they will look to improve on when they face the enigmatic Crossfire offense. Washington will be desperately seeking some consistency as they have proved they are capable of scoring, tallying 13 goals this season but have also allowed 13 goals against, a number reflected in their record.
