Co-Op Highlanders move to semis

Posted on: Monday, February 25, 2013

The Peninsula Co-Op Highlanders advanced to the Semifinals of the MWSL Cup with a 3-2 win against Coquitlam Xtreme this Sunday afternoon.

The team showed grit and determination and had to face this game with only one substitute. “A total team effort, we had three 16 year olds and three 17 years olds in the pitch with no substitutes, it really speaks to the character and the quality as players of these women.” said acting Head Coach Bud Livingstone. Head Coach Dave Dew is currently in England with the UVic Women's Soccer team.

Coquitlam played a very physical game and the Highlanders answered with skill. The Highlanders played a crisp possession game with a great build up to every attacking play. The first goal came as a culmination to the Highlanders’ possession play with a cross that was headed in by Kristen Livingstone. Heather Christie Followed with a 35 yard pitch burner into the low corner and, even though Coquitlam evened up the score with corner kicks and scrambled plays, Mariel Solsberg scored the game winner and pushed the highlanders into the Semifinal.

“It is difficult to mention a stand-out for this game, I think that we really played as a team and it showed in the final result” said Coach Livingstone.

The Peninsula Co-Op Highlanders will play their MWSL semifinal cup match against the Vancouver Whitecaps U18 program on March 10th. Game time and location TBD.
