Highlanders announce Evaluation Camp

Colin Miller, Head Coach of the Victoria Highlanders FC of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) is pleased to announce the PDL club will hold their first player evaluations on Saturday, May 31st in Victoria.

"The team build-out plan starts now with this first trial session and our expectation is this process will continue over the next 10-12 months, leading up to our first Main Training Camp in the spring of 2009" explains the former Scottish and Canadian International player and coach. Miller will be the man leading the club in their inaugural PDL season, after previous stints with Derby County in the English Premiership and Abbotsford Rangers of the PDL.

This initial session will be conducted to get a look at the players from Vancouver Island, age 16 and over that have competed at the Metro level or higher and have aspirations for a college and/or professional career in football. "We need to find out the quality of player we have locally before we extend our reach to meet the PDL standard of football. We are looking for the best lads that can compete at this level and also to fill a reserve team squad...so this will provide our coaching staff the opportunity to properly assess our Island athletes.

The Highlanders welcome qualified players to register here. Players will be contacted with details and more information will be posted to the club's website. All players must provide their own black shorts and white socks and pay the $25 registration fee upon arrival at the park. Players from the Saturday camp may be selected to attend an "Invitation Only" second session to be held at Royal Athletic Park on Sunday June 1st.

Successful candidates will be selected to participate in summer training sessions beginning the first week of June through mid July and a "SUMMER SOCCER SERIES" of exhibition matches. Players between the ages of 16 and 19 that are unsuccessful for 1st team selection may be identified for further training and match opportunities with a reserve/development team.
