I would say rise in ticket cost was the reason we had far fewer people at the game on Sat. Why not have 3,000 paying $10 rather than 1,000 paying $20 and $15?

Let's get some deals for tickets right away. I went to the game because I got free tickets. The social environment was great the football was poor......very poor.

Team needs to play better otherwise Ian will be on his way and Dave Dew will finally have a chance to coach the team.

I would say a pre-season game, at the same time as the canucks in terrible weather is the reason for the weak attendance. Tickets could be free and you wouldn't have got 3,000.

You can get 4 early season (b4 end of June) games for $35 from the Highlanders office. Not too shabby, but I understand you have to pick your games at time of purchase (therefore, can't take your 3 friends with you to one game, or sig other with you to two games). If you're a multiple sports fan, the 4 on 4 Sportspak is also a good deal.

I thought over 1,000 on a freezing night for a friendly, up against the Canucks playoff fever was pretty decent. I wasn't there myself so I can't comment on the quality of the football.

$10 for the support's section is a bargain! Don't sit in the "posh" seats if can't cough up the big bucks! Seriously though, it's not the ticket price we should be up in arms about, but the outrageous price for a beer!!! There ain't no sexy ref uniform that's gonna make feel good about buying a can of local beer in a plastic glass for close to $7. We're not in GM place FFS. I guess at least it is local and not domestic.

I take it you're referring to the obstructed view seats. I guess there must have been a lot of complaints last year. Sounds like it's the way to go, as you can then move to join the Bravehearts or the other "extra grandstand". But we got damn lucky with the weather last year and the spring has sucked so far...the thrifty Scots could get soaked out in the open :)

Hmm.. As already said. Pre-season game, up against Canucks playoff game, on a crappy, crappy (weatherwise) night.

I'd say getting 1,000 out in those conditions is great for a PDL team. Hell that's better attendance than most of the PDL teams, regular season games, w/ no playoff hockey competition, and great weather.

If you want to build a strong club, there has to be revenue to do that, and we've got the grassroots of a pretty strong club going here.

What was the attendance for last year's pre-season game? I did not go to that one nor the game last week. Regular season is what counts. I am expecting a sell-out on Saturday :)

Actually, TinTin and I went to that first game last year, out at Camosun Interurban on a lovely-clear-smoking-hot Saturday afternoon. There was maybe a couple of hundred people there - and I'm being very generous here - and zero atmosphere. Last Saturday it was brass monkeys freezing bloody cold, there were over 1000 fans out, and the atmostphere was awesome. Criticism of the football played is rather moot, as it was a pre-season friendly - as in where coaches try out prospects and guys are trying to make the team. I think it's daft to judge them until a couple games in when we get all our local players back and the team has a line up that's got a game of two under it's collective belts. This worrying and complaining is more apt for canucks fans

Well said.... the team you saw at the exhibition was not the team you can expect to see in the upcoming games. In fact, we were still short 6 of our top prospects at the May 8th home opener due to paperwork issues. I feel confident in saying that the level of play you will see at the next game will be far superior to that of the past exhibition (and home opener).

Not that I am involved with the club anymore Ted -- but to answer your question, the attendance for the pre-season game against Abbotsford last year was approximately 330 people...for them to get approx 800 or so to this years is great (especially with what was said before...Canucks, Weather, etc.)

Last year we had 2142 at the home opener, and this season it was announced at 1480...so that might be a bit concerning. I went to the game, and the soccer in the first half was poor -- I think most soccer folks would agree with me on that one. Second half the lads played much better and started to play the ball on the carpet, instead of the air.

The GM and Coach have stated that the team we saw at the home opener is not the team that we will continue to see, so I am confident the quality will be impressive enough during their next home game on May 22nd. Really looking forward to seeing the English lads, as well as the other new recruits. Should be a great game.

PS: I would suggest if everyone is concerned about attendances that we all help out and spread the word via FACEBOOK, TWITTER and even word of mouth with our friends. That is the best way to get people at a game, and once they are there I have no doubt they will want to come back.
